Hillary Clinton was the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2016 presidential election. Before running for President of the United States in 2016, Hillary Clinton served as the First Lady during the Bill Clinton administration. After her time as First Lady, she was elected as a United States Senator representing the state of New York. During Barack Obama’s first presidential term in office, Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State.

In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton ran against, and eventually lost to, the Republican Party’s nominee, Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton was an extremely controversial presidential candidate, with many accusing her of being too corrupt to be the President of the United States. The main controversy surrounding Hillary Clinton was her use of a private email server during her term as Secretary of State. The Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed that Hillary Clinton had used a private email server to send and receive classified emails and documents, a practice that is not legally permitted. The email controversy was so disreputable that Hillary Clinton’s opponent in the presidential election, Donald Trump, constantly used it as a criticism against her.

On June 8th, 2016, David Muir, a journalist for ABC News, interviewed Hillary Clinton right before she officially announced to a crowd of applauding supporters that she was the Democratic Party’s nominee for the 2016 presidential election. The interview was conducted by mainstream news outlet, ABC News, whose target audience is basically anyone and everyone with even a passing interest in current events. The interview between David Muir and Hillary Clinton is friendly, yet formal. David Muir asks Hillary Clinton honest and practical questions, some of which are slightly challenging for her to answer honestly.

The interview starts with David Muir acknowledging the fact that Hillary Clinton is going to be the first female presidential nominee for a major political party, and then asking her what that means to her. This opening question denotes that the interview is taking place in a historic moment, thus making the interview seem even more important than it would have been otherwise. David Muir proceeds to ask Hillary Clinton a series of well-researched questions. This is a great question because David Muir knows that the majority of the target audience is very curious about the email controversy.
