Jeff Hanneman performing with Slayer in the late-2000’s
On May 2, 2013, Jeff Hanneman, guitarist for the legendary thrash metal band Slayer, died of liver failure. After forming Slayer in 1981, Jeff Hanneman served as the primary songwriter of the band, creating many of the bands greatest hits. His death left a huge hole in the band, with many fans not knowing if the band would continue without him. However, founding members, Kerry King and Tom Araya, vowed to continue touring and writing music. In 2015, Slayer released their first album without Jeff Hanneman. The album, entitled Repentless, showed fans that Slayer was not going anywhere anytime soon. The band continues to tour, playing many of the late Jeff Hanneman’s songs when performing.
